My !SoundCheck program reports that the available sample rates for my
screen HDMI are only 32/44.1/48k which is worse than the ARMX6
mainboard. !DigitalCD does play 96k/24 files via the HDMI but it looks
like its being downsampled to fit the Monitor's max rate of 48k.
Beware! The result being worse or better depends fully on your
television hardware, since the digital audio is streamend unprocessed
from ARMX6 into your TV-set, bypasssing the SGTL5000 DAC-chip inside
ARMX6.
Yes, I'm aware of that. The internal mainboard of the ARMX6 will work up to
96k, and has good specs. My current monitor only worked up to 48k. So I'm
expecting that tests on my monitor will show a level of quality limited by
my current *monitor*, not the ARMX6. That said, it gives me a chance to
confirm that the HDMI audio is working OK. To go beyond that I'll have to
find a better monitor. I really need one that goes to 96k *and* has an
spdif output so I can re-capture the sample stream values to check against
the input file.
Streaming audio by hdmi-cable gives the codec inside your TV-set total
responsability for the Digital-to-Analog conversion. Sound quality isn't
always top priority for TV-manufactorers, but maybe you're lucky..
No, I'm fairly sure from before any tests that I'm not that lucky. :-/
Audio via the monitor wasn't in my mind when I bought this particular
monitor a few years ago for the ARMiniX I used until changing to ARMX6.
!SoundCheck also shows a change to the entries for the Audio 'mixer'.
I'll do some proper tests tomorrow.
BTW If anyone else wants to cross-check what they get, !SoundCheck is
available from my software page

'standard' sound system settings, etc, which apply at the time you do
a check. So if you run it before/after doing an hdmiaudOn you can see
what changes.
Yes, your SoundCheck and other tools are quite helpful. As is your
extensive ROSS-document and including SWI-call details. Many thanks for
these!
FWIW One of the reason for my now trying to do tests on HDMI audio is that
I plan to add the relevant info to an updated ROSS Document. Jeffrey kindly
pointed me at various documentation to base this on. And as with the
existing ROSS Document I hope to add some simple chunks of demo code, etc.
With luck I hope to add USB Audio at the same time. However holding yer
breath until I achieve this may be unwise... ;->
