Paul,
If I am interpreting your post correctly, you are trying to get sound
from your ARMX6 to your Sony SDM-S75F monitor using the cable carrying
your video signal?
If so, I believe that DVI-D does not normally carry any sound,
either analogue or digital. Full HDMI on the other hand carries digital
sound. I suspect that your monitor will only accept sound input with the
3.5mm jacks.
Yes, you're probably right. Although the signal lines of DVI-D and HDMI
are identical, their applied use is not, HDMI being more advanced/varied.
But adding digital sound shouldn't upset a non-audio-aware DVI monitor, as
in my case seemingly happened.
I wonder if your experience with the *HDMIOn commend is also due to
differences between DVI-D and HDMI. Although there is some overlap
between them for digital video, they are also differences.
To be true my ARMX6 does not die completely when I issue *HDMIOn:
DigitalCD continues its internetradio sound stream (phonejack output).
Maybe it's just the HDMI digital video-and-sound-mixture that upsets my
monitor's video-DAC?
I better quit this sound-on-DVI experiment. Time to go to sleep..
Thanks for your thoughts, Ian.
Greetings,
Paul
