Standifer Gap Marsh, Chattanooga, Hamilton County, TN
July 25 & 26, 2004
Pied-billed Grebe, July 26 on main pond
Possible Little Blue Heron juvenile, July 26 on main pond
All white, too small to be Great Egret, blue-grey beak,
Legs grey, not black, wading in deep water. When it
flew there was no hint of yellow feet.
July 25 a Cooper's* Hawk flew in from the north and checked out
the edges of the water and woods. An Eastern Kingbird chased
it away from the area where a group of Kingbirds were perched
on the fence in the water.
*It is possible that this was a large Sharp-shinned Hawk. Either
way it was surprising to see such a small bird threaten it.
