Standifer Gap Marsh, Chattanooga, Hamilton Co. TN July 7, 2004
LEAST BITTERN: Found 2 more nests today. One had a female incubating 5 eggs.
The other was old and empty (however, one nest I had called old later had 1,
then 2, and today 4 eggs; the female at this nest was one of the most vocal
birds I have ever heard)
BLUE-WINGED TEAL: Flying everywhere, one or two at a time, except the largest
group had 5.
NIGHT HERON: Each of the last three mornings a Night Heron has crossed the
area about 8:00 AM, going south. I would think it is the same one, and a
Black-crowned seems more likely.
WILLOW FLYCATCHER: Two adults busy feeding young in nest. They won't be in
the nest much longer. Monday I looked in, and the young had clear wing-bars; I
don't think it wise to go close to the nest again.
