There are a lot of enlarger lenses available on eBay, some of them are in excellent condition and reasonable priced. I have quite a collection in excellent condition. I remove the lenses from the dark room after use and I keep them in a box with a large canister of silica gel to protect them from what has happened to you lens.

I was able to remove the front element, but the fungus is behind the middle element which as you say is sealed, like the fate of the lens I'm afraid.

Thanks though.

It might not look like it, but an EL Nikkor is made with two lens cells which unscrew just like a Schneider enlarging lens. Have you removed the cells to see if the fungus is growing inside the cells? Usually, the fungus will not be inside the cells as they are sealed, but rather only on the rear of the cell where it can be easily cleaned off.

I have to admit that I too have a collection of enlarger lenses. Some of them I have to admit that I purchased for a good price on ebay because the owner thought that they were ruined because they had fungus. Since the fungus rarely invades the cells, it was a simple matter to remove the cells and disinfect the inner surfaces with isopropyl alcohol and put them back together.

It also remains a great mystery to me why sellers don't seem to be able to remove the lenses from the lens board.
