Subject: [rollei_list] Lens recommendation

I found my El Nikkor 50mm f2.8 enlarger lens with a web-like growth in it this morning, all over the inner element. A victim of the recent damp hot weather.
My fault for leaving out over the week I suppose.

My ever so slightly hazy Componon 50/f4 back up will have to do for now. But this means I'm shopping for a new enlarger lens.

What should I be looking for?

Thanks,

Elias

Its possible that both lenses can be cleaned. If the fungus has not been in the Nikor lens long it may not have damaged the glass yet. Some fungus exudes something which can etch glass. That is pretty much permanent. The haze which forms in many lenses comes off with ordinary lens cleaner but the trick is to be able to gain access to the lens surfaces. In many lenses this is not difficult and most lenses are automatically aligning and centering due to the method of mounting. I don't know which of the current crop of enlarging lenses is the best. AFAIK, the top of the line Schneider and top of the line Rodenstock lenses are a toss-up with Nikor not far behind if at all.
