Back in the 70's when I was setting up my darkroom I got an El Nikkor 50mm just like yours for my 35mm work. It was supposed to be the best available at the time. For medium format the Schneider Componon was at the top of the heap. I couldn't afford one at the time so settled for next best, their middle level Comparon f/4.5 75mm. They also had a budget level Componar. I don't do color printing and I don't go larger than 14x14 and I've always been satisfied with my choices. Allan I found my El Nikkor 50mm f2.8 enlarger lens with a web-like growth in it this morning, all over the inner element. A victim of the recent damp hot weather. My fault for leaving out over the week I suppose. My ever so slightly hazy Componon 50/f4 back up will have to do for now. But this means I'm shopping for a new enlarger lens. What should I be looking for?
