Speaking of life after ARA . Have been retired over 6 years but I still
dream about
being on ships most nights but the story line is bizarre.
Here is what ABC news has to say about DA14.

As asteroids go, DA14 is a shrimp. The one that wiped out the dinosaurs
65 million years ago was 6 miles across.
But this rock could still do immense damage if it struck given its
143,000-ton heft, releasing the energy equivalent
of 2.4 million tons of TNT and wiping out 750 square miles.
By comparison, the meteor that emitted sonic blasts nearly 1,000 miles
east of Moscow, shattered windows and injured
hundreds weighed an estimated 10 tons.

Heard a good call in today re the asteroid strike in the Urals. The woman says (and she sounded
serious) " Why don't Obama jes git on top of air force one and wave the thing away?"
There you go. New level of "low information voters".
I wonder how many kilotons that low approach meteor would yield if it hit.
You're right, it's not that high an altitude fly by. Underneath the
geosynchronous satellites I understand.
