I remember seeing him for the first time. Bob Freeney was setting him up
for candid shots for his admirers. I turned and there he was, at that VERY
moment, I understood EXACTLY what the standard meant by "It is well
balanced, with harmonious development of the forequarter and hindquarter"
Also the smooth flowing lines from top of head down the neck and withers
through the neck, and level back to a long gradually sloping croup. It all
came together for me when I saw Mike. I regret I never saw the beautiful
Santana's Man O'War. The best picture I have seen of Phantom is on page 142
of the book by Jane Bennett, "The New Complete German Shepherd Dog"
Phantom was beautiful and much like Mike in structure. . Pat Parsons and I
use to road work Phantom and his 1/2 sister Jasmine (both sired by Sel Ch
Caralon's Hein vd Lockenheim) side by side as we prepared them for the
shows. This was before Phantom went to CA.
