[ SHOWGSD-L ] GSD numbers in shelters

As of this morning, Petfinder lists 7,507 dogs of GSD description in the
shelters nationally.
Dogs like Mena in Perry Georgia...found abandoned and chained to a tree with no
food or water. She is now critical and we have no foster homes left for her in
this state. Or Shep...a 10 and a half year old boy in Marion Arkansas...left at
the shelter because his owner could no longer afford the medication he needs to
keep his arthritis at bay.
Yesterday, with the help of our cadre of AWESOME volunteers, LHSH was able to
commit to assisting with four more dogs! Tara and Duke in Coweta County Pound,
in Newnan Ga were on the euth list! With Lynda W. faxing the paperwork and
Suzanne K. doing the driving, Tara is now safe at Town N Country boarding
kennel in Marietta awaiting a ride to SC. Duke was adopted moments before
Suzanne arrived.
Sargent has gone on to Rescue, after being offered transport by Pauline M and
Barb H! and it looks like a foster may come through for Natalie and Cole; the
mother and vision impaired son in Long Island NY! Kathy M. has generously
offered to foster this pair...."all" that is left is to arrange transport.
Threese is busily trying to assist with a sad blonde sable female in a W.VA
kill facility...PAWS CROSSED...she may have a home after all!
Our volunteers are the backbone of our efforts; they spend countless hours
driving, networking, calling, or caring for one of these hapless souls. We are
eternally grateful for their dedication.
