Aha! I used to use Saran to keep my inks from skinning over in the  
cans, and one day it stopped working. I figured they changed the  
formula, so I switched to wax paper which doesn't work as well, but  
gets me by. I wonder if wax paper would do the job for the trays.

I pour my chems back into bottles, and give the trays a rinse after  
each session. My fixer (1 and 2) lasts for a very long time.
