A case of sensationalism by Consumer Reports:
They found small amounts of vinyl-chlorides were leached
when fatty foods, wrapped in Saran, were microwaved
to such a heat as to decompose the Saran.

That may be it, the article on Saran at the Johnson web site warns against using it to microwave fatty foods.
