NO. But you have hit upon a valid point. existing receivers cannot support 
square pixel, widescreen 480P. It is likely that these throwback formats will

True. But this is far from HD quality. You need full line lengths to get 54the 
horizontal detail - 704 is well short of 854. 

But it is what we are stuck with for ATSC 1.0.

And are you still missing that in one-way broadcast, to all TVs out there, a 
multitude of different SD options makes no sense? Just pick a small number of 
useful options, and stick with those. It's been too many decades that you've 
obsessed over such trivia.

Just pick the right ones.

And then there's another looming issue: If a market want's to adopt
ATSC 3.0, it is highly likely there would need to be a simulcast
transition with stations operating both ATSC 1.0 and ATSC 3.0
multiplexes. 480P would be an excellent choice for the legacy ATSC
1.0 broadcasts - unfortunately the format would go dark on many ATSC
1.0 enabled TVs.

Utter nonsense. I posted you the ATSC 1.0 formats, and I'll repeat that. As 
always, Craig, inform yourself first. Then argue.

Sorry, but the ATSC formats are a throwback to interlaced "601." 

Square pixels are now standard in displays - inter-format conversions reduce 
delivered resolution. But EDTV at least has the advantage that you don't have 
to de-interlace.

Yes, these sub line length formats will work, but they are not optimal.
