Nice "bait and switch!"
Are you freakin' kidding me? You have been arguing all along based on a vacuum,
and now you're saying I switched something? Guess where I got that link from,
Craig. I did what I told you to do, and you refused. I went to the first post
with that title. That link is what started the thread.
First you provide a link the the 2013 NPRM
**False**. You are truly **hopeless**. First, I provided that 2017 link, in the
original post. Then, after I noticed that you were arguing from a point of
ignorance, I went and got the 2013 NPRM that this 2017 NPRM is modifying.
Because you had to remember that 2013 NPRM to make sense of this new one.
Ideally you would have remembered the basic AM revitalization subject, from
2013, or refrained from arguing until you informed yourself.
There is no blanket extension to 40 miles.
It's more than 40 miles, most likely. I already explained that. The range is
based on a 2 mV/m contour of the AM pattern. Once you have this powerful FM
translator, might as well call the station an FM station. Why bother with AM
anymore? It's hardy "revitalizing" the AM band.
"To the extent that some commenters argue that eliminating the 40-mile
limitation enables the extension of service beyond an AM station's core service
area or community of license, we note that the Commission has already held that
the 2 mV/m contour in all cases constitutes an AM station's primary service
area. In light of the conclusion of that contour as one of the limits to
translator coverage in the modified rule, we do not believe it is necessary to
impose the 40-mile limitation to ensure that the use of FM translators will not
result in such extensions of service."
Explained to Craig: The FCC is not concerned about the fact that a 2 mV/m
contour edge might extend even beyond 40 miles in radius of coverage. The FCC
is saying, use the signal strength criterion, don't worry about range going
beyond 40 miles.
I got it from the beginning Bert.
Funny, Craig. You had no clue what the subject matter was. You hadn't read the
new NPRM, you did not remember the 2013 NPRM, and you asserted that the FCC was
allowing low power FM gap fillers. All inventions, with no basis in fact.
So I repeat once again. This is no AM revitalization. Functionally, as far as
users are concerned, this replaces the crappy AM signal with an FM signal. The
"revitalization" consists of users dropping AM entirely, and using FM instead.
The next logical step being, tear out those humongous AM towers.
ON THE OTHER HAND, digital MW broadcasts could be a way of revitalizing that MW
band.
