You are adding stations to one spectrum slice that have been
using a different slice. This means, clutter and waste, hardly
"reuse." You could instead allow for more stations, in that
supposedly spare spectrum. Duh, Craig.
WHAT A PILE OF CRAP.
Typical clueless Craig. You can make the most drop-dead obvious comment, and
trust Craig to not get it. What I said was OBVIOUS, Craig. "Spectrum reuse"
means to reuse the spectrum for OTHER purposes, such as same spectrum for OTHER
cell phone calls. Simulcasting **is not** "spectrum reuse." Get with it, Craig.
What is really ironic here, based on information I posted yesterday,
is that FM was first used for exactly the purpose that the FCC is
now addressing in the current NPRM - FM translators for AM stations.
You still don't get it, Craig. That was an initial TRANSITION STRATEGY. In the
1960s, AM-FM simulcasting became strictly limited or even prohibited, by the
FCC. So who the heck needs a transition strategy to move AM to FM, when
everyone has FM these days? Why not end the charade, and just quit AM
altogether? Or use it much more effectively by mandating digital?
I shattered that argument yesterday;
ROTFL. You have yet to "shatter" any argument. You are wrong. I told you, pay
closer attention. Most of what you saw has no HD Radio capability. I know,
because I go out there and check. Go ahead and dig deeper, then let us know how
many receivers, A/V receivers, stereo tuners, have HD Radio. At Best Buy or
anywhere else.
NO Bert, these sub channels do not provide the type of choice people
are looking for.
False, and they could even if they do not. For example, BBC Radio News was on
one of the .2 subchannels here. I used to listen to BBC that way, until I got
my Internet Sangean tuner, which no longer supports HD Radio. In fact, that was
one of the main radio stations I listened to.
You still have not explained to us how the kind of digital radio
service you want can be deployed profitably.
Many or most stations are ALREADY broadcasting that way, Craig, and I have not
seen any go out of business. The only problem is the CE vendors.
Radio stations have no concept of individual ears Bert. The business
model is driven by ratings - how many ears you can sell to an
advertiser. I don't know if the sub channels are even measured
Then if you don't know, don't hazard a guess. Or at least, make it obvious that
you're guessing. Subchannels that include advertising are obviously supposed to
create revenue.
The Best Buy web site clearly shows which radios offer HD.
And it's false. Read the specs for the tuners, the A/V receivers, etc. Look at
higher end equipment, like NAD, Adcom, Rotel. Show me how many incorporate HD
Radio. The problem is, Craig, you don't know what you're talking about.
Consumer demand CANNOT be created, if you jealously keep the equipment from the
consumer. HD Radio tuners should have been everywhere by now. Instead, our new
FCC Chairman seems to not even know they exist.
Bert
