One

on the opposite side of the earth from the sun
we find the big wide orb in june
plum ridiculed that rhyme
but surely not this
old art the ad man and his wife nay chah
worked long and hard
in their hardscrabble cabin over by arizona
subsisting on cold corned beef white bread and hash
being paid small retainers month by month for consultancy
in cash
focus grouping till their ears bled
discovering way back before the fifties
what we hokey humans prefer
the aston-o-shine-a-matic-bliss
this

Two

they shared the sixteenth the eighteenth the twenty-first birthday
the prom
a lot more in between
e and fuji
new years babies

i lay the facts before you
wishing i knew more

pushing a stroller round the neighborhood one day two decades back
we ran into daniel fujimoto half japanese-american
and his mother
erin of kansas

we tried a babysitting co-op which
didn't work so well
they moved
not far
but we lost touch

in high school suddenly there he was again
now gay
happy to come over
to our girl-crowded house

he went north for college
made what they called
a gesture
we gathered round

he took a job
enrolled at community college
worked

on his facebook page you can see two of them with drinks in martini glasses
wearing funny hats
smiling for the camera
first of this year

flowers are wilting in this week's heat but
young folk still go out dancing

on thursday
he killed himself
