do hunter/gatherers wonder
how important is it that i finish this
on any given day do some say
enough of this leafing through
i'd rather be fishing
what if what they're actually doing
is catching fish for food
rather than merely going through the motions
catching and releasing
i should ask
the next to come along
as your new head of pride
i cannot express how proud i am
to have the task
my job is now to show
to set achievable goals with measurable metrics
rubrics if you wish
see there our ark burns brightly
thanks be to lightning
before the full horror of our stranding strikes
i want to thank you and everyone around you
for your company and tenacity during our long voyage
for your patience with the porridge
to show that i want you to like me
i'm going to roll over onto my back
stick my legs in the air suggesting vulnerability
though like you i am currently under-exercised
note nor claws nor tooth has atrophied
red is what they are
so have at my belly if any of you dare
but yeah verily
i will rip your bits off
the most important thing is that we all get along
sans politics or nostalgia
we're all of us looking forward to a new start
no one wants to face a diverse future
missing his bits
