Hi John. Actually, I have already done this in Configuration Manager and it
did stop the progress announcements of Web sites being loaded. I still,
however, here the continuous progress of file downloads, burning CD's to the
hard drive, etc. For me, at least, turning the progress bar off didn't
effect those areas. Of course, I was already getting those particular
progress announcements in 5.10 and earlier versions of Jaws as well. 6.0
added the automatic announcements of loading Web pages which I have turned
off.

Yes it can be done.
All you have to do is go into the configure ation & user options & tab
around you should find it, it might say something like every 5 seconds just
arrow up to none save your changes & you shouldn't hear it any more.

That explains why even with the progress bar announcement disabled I still
here progress announcements when I'm downloading files from the Internet,
copying song files to my hard drive from a CD, etc. Like most, I've
permanently turned off the progress bar announcements feature inn 6.0 but
would like to disable progress announcements in these other areas if
possible. It can get rather annoying, especially when it's a large file.
Can this be done?

The downloading of email progress is different from the page download
progress bar. They are different processes. Downloading a program is
something completely different. That happens in a dialog box and is echoed
on the task bar button, not on the Internet Explorer status line.
