Well, the system tray idea didn't work. I was rather hoping it would,
thinking that , if I clicked the darned thing, it would leave me alone.
I guess it's time for plan B.

Hi Lisle, please would you send me the info, you are absolutly
right, I had some one standing by my side and he did not see anything on
the screen but JFW tells me that a my computer is at risk that Norton is
off .

Turning off all help balloons would probably be
overkill, but I can tell you one I'd love to address. Are there any
other XP users bothered by constant reminders that your firewall is
turned off? I can verify that my firewall is on. I'm told to click the
balloon to fix this problem--lotsa luck. By the time JFW reads it, the
balloon has disappeared, or is about to. You'd have to have the fastest
mouse in the west to click this thing, while the clicking's good--and
that presumes you know where to find it. How can I convince this fool
system that its firewall is indeed on?

If you wish, you can reply off list to tlisle@xxxxxxxx,
as I realize this one is marginal, at best.

If they still pop up, contact me off list and I
will send you a file that will turn off help balloons in the registry.

                                Hi Stacey,

If I have my facts in order here is the
solution.

                                1. Go into control panel.

                                2. Hit F to find folder options and hit
enter.

                                3. Go to the view tab.

                                4. Tab down until you are in a tree
view. On my system it is 2 times.

                                5. Go to the last item which should be
"show pop up description for folder and desktop items" and make sure it
is set to off.

                                6. Hit enter on apply and then on ok.
