MessageTed, I just learned something.

I did not know that it would tell me that and it does I was just not sure what
it was.

Can I ask what fire wall you use?

My system has a message every time I boot up such as this. What I was told
is happening is the message is up because the firewall or whatever component it
is speaking of is loading up. So the firewall is indeed on but the system
can't keep up. then as soon as it finishes loading the balloon goes away. It
is annoying but I don't think there is anything you can do about it.

Turning off all help balloons would probably be overkill, but I can tell
you one I'd love to address. Are there any other XP users bothered by constant
reminders that your firewall is turned off? I can verify that my firewall is
on. I'm told to click the balloon to fix this problem--lotsa luck. By the
time JFW reads it, the balloon has disappeared, or is about to. You'd have to
have the fastest mouse in the west to click this thing, while the clicking's
good--and that presumes you know where to find it. How can I convince this
fool system that its firewall is indeed on?

If you wish, you can reply off list to tlisle@xxxxxxxx, as I realize this
one is marginal, at best.

If they still pop up, contact me off list and I will send you a file that
will turn off help balloons in the registry.

      Regards,

      Dave

          Hi Stacey,

If I have my facts in order here is the solution.

          1. Go into control panel.

          2. Hit F to find folder options and hit enter.

          3. Go to the view tab.

          4. Tab down until you are in a tree view. On my system it is 2 times.

          5. Go to the last item which should be "show pop up description for
folder and desktop items" and make sure it is set to off.

          6. Hit enter on apply and then on ok.
