I agree widescreen mitigates the issue.
How about having the zoom button toggle three modes:
* fullscreen without obscuring the Deskbar
* total fullscreen with obscuring the Deskbar
* back to "normal" windowsize
Is there a need to steal focus when auto-raising the Deskbar? Don't think so.
