There are so many things about midi that frustrate me when I have to implement it in a plugin, because it was designed for streaming. We here have the chance to create a nice way for a host and a plugin to communicate, I suggest we take that chance. Unless you want to make plugins that process midi, of course. But I don't see the need for that, other than to accomodate developers who have a lot of current code based on midi. I for one will be happy to write new code that doesn't use midi and throw the old code out without a second glance.
