You can call it MIDI 1.1 or Extended MIDI or MIDI 2.0 or GMPI or anything
you like, as long as it does what I want.

Reality check: If you build it, get major market movers to support it,
spend millions marketing it, educate salespeople and consumers about it,
*then* they come.
The MMA has done all of the above for MIDI for the last 20 years.
That's a lot of momentum. Maybe we should leverage that and call GMPI's
control protocol MIDI 2.0. Actually, better not, because if we call it
MIDI 2.0 then no one will support it.
