The context in which I have used this sentence is...
"Note: Pressing the Shift key while clicking the XXX button updates all
parameters."
The statement follows a procedure and highlights why it is necessary.
The dialog box can be actually be closed without pressing the shift key, but
no
Changes are saved. Therefore I felt an explaination to be necessary.

I've always used press. Does someone have a Microsoft Manual of Style =
handy? I think that's what they prescribe.
If that were my sentence and the context allowed for it, I'd actually
rewrite the sentence to remove the 'ings'.=20
