I spent part of the day checking several spots along Lake Michigan. Starting
at Harrington Beach SP----end of D---yielded a Surf Scoter, Common Loon and
Horned Grebe along with other expected species. Port Washington was very
quiet. Kohler SP was surprisingly good on the lake. Present were 5
Red-throated Loons, 3 Bonaparte's Gulls plus standard birds. Their feeders had
Purple Finch and Red-br. Nuthatch plus numerous chickadees.
From a dead end south of the Sheboygan power plant a Western Grebe, 4
White-winged Scoters and single Surf and Black Scoters were seen.
At North Point in Sheboygan an adult Glaucous and Great Black-backed Gull were
present. The female Harlequin Duck was resting on the first pier south of the
parking lot.
On the way home I detoured to Horicon Marsh. There was some open water,
especially along 49. Cranes, a few Trumpeter and Tundra Swans and a pair of
Black Ducks were seen along with numerous Canada Geese and some Mallards. At
least 3 Rough-legged Hawks were along the highway.
