I spent part of the day checking out Lake Michigan. The best spots easily were Harrington Beach SP and the Port Washington harbor. The remainder of the stops along the lake had almost nothing (Kohler SP, Sheboygan, Cleveland, Manitowoc, Two Rivers, Point Beach SF, while the mouth of the Fox River at Green Bay had cormorants and a White Pelican). Between the first two stops I had a loon slam!---a real surprise!! At the end of D at Harrington Beach after a while a loon approached from the south, flying by quite close to shore. It was obviously no Common so I thought probably Red-throated. No again as the id points proved it to be a PACIFIC LOON!! It continued on to the north. Some time later an obvious Common Loon went by. Long-tailed Ducks were just off shore on the lake. At the Port Washington harbor there were 5 Red-throated Loons in the harbor; that is until a fishing boat moved out towards the lake, flushing all 5 loons that also headed out on the lake. (Two ended up beyond the north break wall.) A White-winged Scoter was in the pond off the harbor. The only other bird of note were 2 Great Black-backed Gulls at North Pt in Sheboygan.
