Ayep. Me and Fred have been friends for mny years!!)))) I don't do it quite the way he does , but close to it. One nice thing about the TI backup is it takes some of your fears away. Which allows you ro be a kittle more, ummm ..'adventurous '?)))) which also increases your learning too.

Good luck with the new 'Screamin' Demon' !!!)))

Howard & Bruce,

Thanks for the reply.

Howard, thanks for the kind words. I am so grateful to all the TTT members who helped me learn the ins and outs of computer use. Now if I can just continue adding to my knowledge with Vista and Win7.

Bruce, thanks for the reminder. I have had some bad crashed in the past, and part of my learning was not only about how to recover, but the real learning was how to prevent the problem.

Armando introduced me to Arconis True Image, and I have been using that as a primary back up.

In addition, I have been following the advise of another old master: Fred Langa, now a member of WindowsSecrets.com group. Langa recommends backing up multiple times even during an OS installation.

This is what he says he does:
First, before he begins the installation process he backups the old setup's data.

Then another complete backup after each of these steps are completed:
1. The security programs are in place
2. The new installed and updated OS has been loaded
3. The browser and e-mail client are installed
4. After the major productivity apps are reinstalled
5. Then again after everything else is loaded, like maintenance tools, games, etc;
6. And then finally after all user data is in place

So I was very careful to do multiple backup during the installation.
I can't imagine many users doing that many backups, but I bet Langa does it because he has seen just about everything go wrong that can.

So hopefully it will be a good reminder that you can never backup too much!!

BRIAN
