Radnor Lake State Natural Area Davidson Co. Nashville, TN Friday 2007 October 19 07:00-09:30am clear, cool Jan Shaw and I had the same idea this morning. With the passage of a rapidly moving cold front last night, there might still be some migrants passing through Radnor Lake this morning. Although it was a nice morning, the front did not bring a lot of birds with it except for the usual, at this time of the season, plethora of YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERs. We saw 4 species of warblers including BLACK-THROATED GREEN and MAGNOLIA, but the best bird of the morning was a male HOODED WARBLER that we found chipping almost constantly like an alarmed chipmunk. He was a real treat as he fluffed up in the sun. Also seen were single GRAY CATBIRD and WHITE-EYED VIREO, plus a half dozen ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKs. We saw all 6 expected woodpecker species, missing only the rare for Radnor RED-HEADED. -- Frank Fekel Tennessee State University Center of Excellence in Information Systems 3500 John A.
