[texbirds] Tuesday morning bird census, Hagerman NWR

We started the day with a pleasant chill in the air and the first couple of 
hours were very productive.  Right off, we saw a Merlin sitting in a tree near 
Harris Creek and then as we proceeded north from headquarters we saw a mature 
and an immature Black-crowned Night-Heron sitting in a tree west of the low 
water crossing, north of headquarters. Proceeding to Goode we saw a Bewick's 
Wren, a Carolina Wren, a House Wren and a couple of Ruby-crowned Kinglets all 
in the same tree. We saw Northern Flickers, Red-headed Woodpeckers, Red-bellied 
Woodpeckers, and Pileated Woodpeckers along with a couple of male Wood Ducks at 
Dead Woman Pond. We also saw 2 Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers on Haller Haven Trail 
and another two at the Goode Picnic area. At Mineral Marsh there were about 50 
Long-billed Dowitchers and a good assortment of ducks, including Gadwalls, 
American Wigeons, Mallards,  Blue-winged Teals, Northern Shovelers, a Northern 
Pintail and a Redhead. We finished the day with 63 species.
