It was a good day of birding at the refuge with a total of 88 species.
Highlights of the day were Merlin near entrance to Plover. Louisiana
Waterthrush on Big Mineral Creek at end of Meadow Pond Rd. 5 Wild Turkeys on
way to Meadow Pond. Pair of Wood Ducks sitting in a tree at Dead a Woman Pond.
The mud flats off the end of Plover were full of shorebirds including 1
Black-necked stilt, 127 American Golden-Plover, 240 Baird's Sandpipers, 103
Least Sandpipers, 113 Pectoral Sandpipers and 152 Long-billed Dowitchers there
and in the marshes. We got a good look at a Hairy Woodpecker on the road to
Goode. The white egrets are back in good numbers.
