Larry,

The best way to handle this is make a copy of the original invoice,
write across the front

" Congratulations, You have won our 'Christmas in July' drawing.
Your bill is paid in full (good for this repair only)."

Mail it to him. He can't bad mouth you
and you won't loose any sleep over it.

It took me a few years to learn this.
