Yep, it just ain't worth it sometimes, and you have to let it go.
That was very difficult for me to do for the first few years I was in
business, but the mental relief when you decide to release it is well worth
it. Luckily there aren't many who will try to screw you.

Once, when I was just a pup, and I was working for someone else, I went on a
delivery and on the way back we stopped by a house where they complained
about a snowy picture. There was no one home but all we had to do was look
up at the antenna to see why, didn't even get out of the truck. Later I was
in the shop when I heard the owner give a guy a new antenna for free because
he was griping. I asked him about it after the guy left and found out he was
the guy whose house we stopped at and saw the antenna with the elements
broken off, laying on the roof and ground, and hanging down. He claimed we
broke his antenna. I could never understand why the owner just gave him a
new one to take home, until I had been in business for quite a few years
myself, then it all began to make sense. It ain't worth fighting over.

or another. If your in business, of just about any kind, for any length of
time, you have to deal with people who take advantage of you if they can.
As you can see there is no" one way" to deal with your situation. I have
usually written it off the few I have had in 25 years, as a bad debt. Reason
being that most of the other effective alternatives, are more costly in the
long run. If you have the time and the inclination, and you use a work
invoice that has a repairman's lien clause in it, and if you have a law
enforcement agency that is willing to help, you can can take possession of
the equipment till the bill is satisfied. However this may not prove to be
profitable in the long run either. One other thing if you don't get a
diagnostic fee up front, you might want to start. At least you have some
thing for your effort.
