My Policy is that Checks are held 7 Days Before Merchandise or Repair work
can be recieved , unless they are a repeat Customer.

I get people wanting me to do the work, and pay Friday when their Boyfriend
Gets Paid etc. - Sorry, too many people with selective Memory these days.
Not worth the hassle or risk. As for the CC, they can file a Dispute with
the CC Company. All you would have to do is Fax them a copy of the Repair
Invoice as proof work was done, and show a willingness to correct anything
that is not to the customers liking (within reason) if they bring the set
back.

Also, the $75 is a bit high for a returned item......its usually $25 on
personal Accounts, maybe higher on Business accounts. You can also have a
Store Policy of a Fee / extra charge for Returned Checks - charge them
whatever the bank charges you. If you did a Good Job, its not your
Fault.....but all in all , you cant really be too trusting wherever personal
checks are involved unless they are a known reliable person in advance.

Some Shops who have been shafted one too many times, have them sign the back
of the invoice, which covers them in the event of such happenings with very
fine print. Most people will never need to read it, as its mere common
sense, but once in a while you get someone trying to pull a fast one, and I
guess its worth the hassle.

Subject: [TechAssist] bad checks??

i had an experience i didnt know how to solve.
i repaired a tv, customer picked up and paid 75 with check.
10 days later i get a letter from my bank saying they withdrew
the 75 from my account because the check was stop payment.
i called the customer and would always be told the man wasnt home,
finally i did talk to him a week later.
he said he stooped payment because he didnt think it was good
enough picture.
i said why didnt you call me , or bring it back , so i could
make it right.
at least let me have my parts back.
he said no.
and that i should take him to court for the 75 if i like. and
hung up.
i contacted my attorney, who said forget it , you been screwed.
the set probably works fine and he knows you cant afford to
sue him.
and since then i found that he could have also stooped payment
on a credit card if he had used one.
are there any answers to this type of problem???
Larry
