Well, having neither a sine bar or a taper attachment,
When I do a taper,I chuck a piece of bar and
centerdrill it. I am lucky in that the centers for my
lathe have centers in the tangs. I put one center in
the tailstock and use it to support a center having
the taper I want to copy between the tailstock and the
chucking piece. I adjust the compound by moving a
blunt tool bit along the supported taper and watching
the light reflected between the two from a sheet of
white paper laying on the bed. May be crude, but it
works--by constantly checking the taper as it arrives
at the finished dimensions.
