I have three, count them, external Dec talk synthesizers. They all worked
just fine when I put them away. Just for the sake of experimentation, do
you think that I could get jaws to speak thru one of them? When you
consider it, the cost of using jaws has really come down. Those units
cost$1100 each when that was some serious money. It's never been cheap to
be blind.

Perfect Paul was a part of the DecTalk family of voices, so as DecTalk
went, so Perfect Paul went. Can't say that I missed him, but again, that
is simply a testimony to the fact that voice preference is very
subjective.

When you use synthesizers such as the RealSpeak synthesizers, for
example,
is that when you speed them up, the quality of the speech deteriorates
considerably. Also, they use more computer resources than synthesizers
such
as Eloquence.
Personally, I find them irritating and annoyingly slow for everyday use,
which is why I would only use them for functions such as "SayAll" with
the
appropriate JAWS command
When I first used Eloquence, I did not like it very much. But, like many
other people, I have got used to it.

The voices on the Stream are vastly scaled-down versions of the
RealSpeak
voices. The ones included with JAWS sound considerably better. They are
not, as I have said several times now, meant to replace Eloquence.

You do not need to save the FT download , just run it and you will be
prompted to hit the install button and the module will go to the right
place
within the FS Folder. The FS Daisy Basic Training is very helpful with
this
topic.

I'm using Jaws 10. I'd like to install one or more voices from the
RealSpeak
Solo Direct page at the FS site, but I don't understand what I'm
supposed

do.
When I click on the FTP link for a voice, I get a common download
dialogue.
Fine. First of all, do I want to run or save? if it's Run, what
happens?
And
if it's Save I want, then in which folder of my hard drive should I
place
it
?
And then, how do I actually install it and get it working?
I used to use Jaws 9, and I installed the old RealSpeak voices from
the
Jaws
9 CD, and they all appeared in my Say All item on the Configuration
Manager
Settings menu, and I knew how to get a voice working as the default
Say
All
voice or, if I preferred, to set it up so that if I pressed Alt key
Insert
down arrow instead of the regular Say All command, the voice would
kick
in.
So I have that experience. But I can't figure out how to install one
or
more
of the new voices. this.
I hope my question is clear. Thanks for any assistance.
