i personally suggested not to make ILUGC mailing list a place for it
and keep it english (since i felt the presence of non-tamil speaking
guys here - unfortunate though!) and instead invited technical
people who can also handle simple Tamil to make use of other mailing
list (fsf-tn, ubuntu tamil team etc.,) to answer queries in Tamil.
Well, I generally lurk in this (and other LUG lists in India)
to see if I can answer questions, and not just those specific to
Debian. I've been running Linux is circa '93-94, and am quite
familiar with Debian, and would hope that I represent an asset that
the people on the list can utilize.
Unfortunately, I don't understand Tamil.
So discussions in non-english might empower more local users
to participate (which is a good thing), it also restricts the number
of people who can answer them -- and it is tricky determining where
the tradeoff lies.
The way Debian has done this is to have an english only users
list, and a number of debian-user-{french,german,spanish,chinese,...}
mailing lists specific to a language, with some people providing a
bridge.
