Good that such an idea was taken up and introduced by parthan.
above all, we all are here to value freedom... here the idea is, freedom to
express one's thought in the Language of their choice... It would be
expressed best if it is one's mother tongue! Tamil Nadu being the state
Tamil is the obvious choice! :-)
(Personal thoughts on this are more, may be i will find sometime to put it
in my blog as i feel its trivial here..)
I wish to just say something here. I am not replying this mail, but
chose to just to keep the topic single! Of course, everybody is free
to ask in a language of their choice. But in my humble opinion, this
will quickly let the group lose it purpose. This is a technical
mailing list, or so I thought. beryl or Linux is language independent
and for most part, it is thought to be English (may be I am wrong, I
am not checking references even if that is against the guidelines).
For reasonable growth of the readers, targets being those who cannot
reach the advantages of a technical education of the city standards,
it is correct to give out documents in their local languages. But to
truly empower them, they must be taught another language which most
technology currently speaks. I am sorry if the purpose of the group is
not such empowerment.
Also some interesting solutions are discussed in this group. They will
not be available to non-tamil speaking/reading web users who could be
in the same boat, if the list discussed them in local languages.
Btw, does google translate work with tamil??
