I'll stay on this forum till it shuts down, then I'll switch. IF it isn't broke why fix it. The effort in doing so would be too great. The currently plan is to find a way to save off each of the threads on Freelists.org and have them saved in an archive area on CDNUSERS.ORG so they can be accessed / searched. For now the archives will continue to be stored on Freelists.org and I link be put in place on CDNUSERS.ORG. Question 2 response As long as it is related to the Forum topic... this is all that matters.. The Forum Topics are broad by design to allow all related discussions. So a Forum Topic like PCB Design can cover all aspects of PCB Design not limited to just software related discussions. Question 3 response Replying to the posts for the web site have grown quite a bit from the original roll-out as well. You now have the ability to format your replay, (Bold, Italic, Underline, Bullets, etc.) It is still a work in progress and I would certainly post to the Suggestions Forum on improvements you would like to see to improve usable of the site. Question 4 response I agree the existing forum has last of personality and there is no reason we cannot continue that on the new CDNUSERS Forums.. I think the new forum has several advantages, but I'd still like to raise the following: 1 - Excuse me if this has already been answered, but: Is there any plan to merge the thousands of very useful articles and postings from the existing PCB Forum? Otherwise, those of us that do a search before a posting will have to search through two forums. I believe many find the PCB Forum extremely useful for this purpose 2 - Sometimes (actually, a lot of the time) the existing forum covers many skill-sets; postings will often overlap into another area, which is an incredible learning tool. People skilled in Allegro use tend to be highly skilled in many other areas - fabrication, assembly, standards, etc. Sometimes it will be appropriately be suggested that the topic gets posted to a more appropriate forum elsewhere. I hope people won't feel they can't ask slightly off-topic questions because of the forum name being too catagorize. (This may not apply to discussions such as Skill programming, where it IS just usually about Skill programming.) 3 - I'm not sure if the new forum is as flexible as the existing. For example, when replying in the new forum, you can only "quote" the last posting, and not easily embed your own comments. Maybe just a small issues, but worth noting. 4 - The last point I wanted to raise was just covered by George. The existing forum has a personality. I suppose I'm old fashioned, but I like to have a laugh or even a bit of a debate with other users. I'll guess I'll have to be assimilated! Overall, in my opinion, the new forums have gained a bit, but we've also lost a bit. Our goal for this site is to promote a greater exchange of technical information and ideas among customers, and between customers and Cadence throughout the year between the annual CDNLive! Conferences. This community site has established user forums for the SPB Co-Design space that the PCB Forum on Freelist.org currently serves. Cadence technical/support AEs have been encouraged to register as members of this new community to monitor the forum postings and contribute to the discussion as we have seen on the PCB Forum. The ICU PCB SIG board members, who currently maintain the Freelists PCB Forum, have accepted moderator positions on the new cdnusers community site. Detailed discussions were held regarding whether or not to move the Freelists forum to the cdnusers PCB Forum. The consensus from those discussions was that we should shutdown the ICU PCB Forum on Freelists.org and transition over to the forums on cdnusers.org. The cdnusers community site is open to the public so please feel free to browse around to see what it is all about. Note that at the forum or the thread level you are able to subscribe and get email notifications of all posts directly to your desktop (must be registered and logged in to access this feature). There are many advantages in moving over to this new user community, above and beyond the forums. The cdnusers site is organized into four major technology zones, with user-contributed articles and interviews user contributed product reviews, screenshots and videos, as well as user-to-user forums. The content on these zones will be refreshed on a weekly to bi-weekly basis, and the forums and user comments are posted immediately with moderator oversight. The forum and community moderators will poll the user community from time to time on current design challenges, tool enhancements, tool refinements and tool use common practices. This feedback will be used to drive content at the annual CDNLive! Conference and provide input to the Cadence planning/development process. We are also developing a process to capture key issues to feed back to Cadence on a regular basis which will be done via the www.cdnusers.org web site. We have a lot of talented users that have taken part in this forum and we do not want to lose this knowledge base. We encourage everyone to register for this new community site and connect with other Cadence users worldwide. Once registered you will be able to reply and post to the user forums and access any of the downloads including the CDNLive! 2005 Silicon Valley Proceedings. Please visit http://www.cdnusers.org and click Register to get started. Note: We will process the registrations as quickly as possible but there may be slight delay in receiving the confirmation email which grants login access to the site. Thank you all for supporting the ICU PCB Forum. We look forward to see everyone's participation on the new Cadence user community site, www.cdnusers.org Sincerely, Michael Catrambone UTStarcom, Inc.
