You may find the SWOP Journal interesting. There is a good deal in it about radio in the Alaskan fishing fleet.

This was a huge fleet. The old Federal Radio Commission bulletins list many ships and shore stations belonging to Libby McNeil and Libby and others.
Fishing boats were allowed to continue using obsolete spark transmitters long after they were banned from other types of ships.
