As an interesting and only slightly-related aside...
I grew up on the Alaskan island where the large fishing boats you see
on the Discovery Channel "Deadliest Catch"program, harbor when they're not at
work.
I paid my way through uni fixing radios, radars, depth sounders, etc.
on those vessels.
Every now and then a boat would sink and my boss at the radar shop would
get the rights to the sunken vessel's radar. We'd get it off the salvage
pile, take it into our shop and spray it down thoroughly with fresh water
until the salt was entirely expunged *and the soak the whole business with
WD-40 to displace the remaining fresh water*. After a few days it would
be dry and - apart from whatever incidental damage was done from the
sinking - the radars would fire up and work just fine usually only with
very minor repairs needed. The trick was to get it into the process
the moment it came up from beneath the sea, to minimize salt water
corrosion.
WD is a VERY good moisture displacement agent. It also takes me back
many decades every time I smell the stuff...
P.S. Do not recommend WD-40 as a cologne, however...
