Dear Richard,
Thanks to you, and others on this list, I am no longer convinced that WD40 is
the best lubricant for all fine machinery, the sole tool for starting cars, an
appropriate frying pan lubricant for frying eggs, and one of the five essential
dietary supplements that will prevent you suffering from cancer and promote a
mindful existence until you are 104.It was a long time ago. My personal feeling
is that the best test of a camera is to put film in it, and fire it up.
A lot of obsessing about getting everything so light tight that one could fire
off a tactical nuclear weapon… and the movements so silky smooth that it feels
like a swiss watch, may be an advanced form of procrastination.
Best regards
Laurence Cuffe

To make this clearer, its a drag brake to keep the bellows from extending
if the camera is pointed down. The minimum drag is adjustable with the screw
in the center of the lever that locks the focus rail. Try adjusting it. I
don't find the rails usually need lubricating but perhaps a small amount of
light oil on the bearings of the axle the focusing gears are on is good. By
memory there is a spring under them.

Some Speed/Crown Graphics have a brake for the rail. Its been a while but
I think there is an adjusting screw either in the center of the brake lever
or on the side. It should not need lubrication. I need to get my Pacemaker
out of storage and refresh myself about it. I think there may be drawings at
