is time to kill. Time shifting TV entertainment has little meaning in their

Wrong study, but thanks for the link. So according to this study 28% of TV is
consumed via streaming, Sounds about right; but this in no way conflicts with
the claim that 49% is viewed live with another 21% time shifted via DVRs.

Sure there is. It looks like they have lost Ch 38-51, after having lost
52-69, after having lost 70-83.
Which just proves my point. Broadcasters were WASTING vast amounts of spectrum.
You're just repeating your old saw, which is largely false, and I've
explained it to you multiple times.
Sorry Bert, but it is absolutely true. It is the reality of high power big
stick distribution and a modulation system that is intolerant of local
multipath and distant station interference. Fortunately, this time the proposed
modulation standard is more forgiving and makes much more efficient use of the
spectrum.
Even in crowded areas, like up and down the East Coast, markets mostly reuse
the same frequencies, every other major market. Even with SFNs, they would
have to do much the same thing, to serve their whole market area including
the distant suburbs. And don't hold your breath about any tight-mesh SFNs,
even with ATSC 3.0.
It's called checker-boarding. It reduces the available spectrum in any market
where there is strong demand by about half (sometimes more, sometimes less,
depending on terrain, open water and other issues that impact interference.
My assumption is that the ISPs are in a far better position to host
edge servers for the congloms.
That's your assumption, but it's just an assumption. CDNs exist for a reason,
Craig.
It is an educated opinion. It is true that some stations have direct signal
links to their local cable system, usually coax, but sometimes digital links.
To place edge servers at multiple local stations would require fiber links from
each station to the ISP head end. Why bother when you can just place the edge
servers at the ISP?
As for CDNs, you are once again clueless. They exist because there is a demand
for the service they provide from a very large number of companies that offer
Internet services. Companies that cannot afford to build out their own
distribution networks - and this is not just for TV. Software companies that
distribute their products via the internet also use CDNs due to the large file
transfers. Photo sharing sites use CDNs. Music services use CDNs. I could keep
going...
TV is just an application...
