OTA usage has gone up, as MVPD subscriptions have plummeted. It has

That is your mistaken opinion.
John Shutt, very recently, provided you a source of this information. Read his
source.
This must be true, although there may be a few that are time
shifting with DVRs as you previously claimed.
A cord cutter who has decided to use, say, Netflix or OTA, *and* gets Netflix
from one of those limited boxes, may only be able to receive current TV
networks shows from an OTA source. It depends on the limited use box, and on
the network web sites the little box supports. So, that type of cord cutter
will likely be using an OTA PVR.
But having an antenna does not necessarily equate to having
broadband
Why prattle on in circles, Craig? Those who just use OTA will obviously be even
more likely to use a PVR. I was merely responding to your comment that OTA TV
is live. That was a specious comment. We all know that the majority of TV
content is being consumed on demand, and that certainly includes content that
was recorded from a "live" stream initially. There should be no excuse for
going in circles like you do, Craig. Everyone already knows this.
The last stats we saw say about 49% live,
False. The last stat, from July 2015, which btw YOU posted, was only 39% live.
You really need to retain these numbers, Craig.
No. In this day and age, people - especially in the U.S. - expect
technology to evolve rapidly, and they want the latest things.
Argue with those, from this list, who contradict what you say. For TV sets, the
majority will totally disagree with you. For fashion apparel, like a
smartphone, sure.
Backtracking are we?
Only for someone hopeless when it comes to follow a thread. I wasn't
backtracking at all. People prefer to watch "TV content" on big screens, not on
smartphones, and that has NOTHING to do with whether or not they are watching
in a 1950s "family style" sitting. We've been through those numbers too many
times. You need to invest your own time in ferretting out anything that claims
otherwise.
But broadcasters did not rush to offer ATSC 1.0, and it is highly
unlikely they will rush to introduce ATSC 3.0 and disenfranchise
the legacy 1.0 audience.
Maybe. This is one of your unsubstantiated, off-the-cuff pronouncements. Find
us some real information on what the general feeling is, among the station
groups. I only see ATSC 3.0 being presented with great enthusiasm.
It's true that ATSC 1.0 and 3.0 simulcasting is often mentioned, to go on for
some indeterminate amount of time. But that will seriously limit, or eliminate
entirely, any ATSC 1.0 HD transmissions, not to mention many of the
subchannels. Especially because ATSC 3.0 will be introduced after the spectrum
crunch (which, as of now, looks like it might eliminate all channels above 36).
Something has to give. The vast majority of people have no clue that their OTA
experience will be so heavily compromised.
Duh. That does not mean that broadcasters are hosting edge servers
Duh. I didn't say they ARE. I said that this could be a meaningful and critical
new role. Your assumption was that the only Internet role for broadcasters
would be to create content, and compete with the congloms.
