How's that for quantification Bert?
You are clueless as ever, Craig. In spite of the numbers, you assume that
everyone who uses OTA TV for at least SOME of their TV viewing MUST be
destitute. Furthermore, you assume that those who can't afford fast-enough
broadband also can't afford a sub-$100 PVR, which they can buy at WalMart.
Even your older article says 5 million lack access to broadband. And yet, 20%
of OTA usage implies some 63 million use OTA. So, your quantification, as
always, is severely lacking.

Wrong study, but thanks for the link.
Un-freakin'-believable. So, read it AGAIN, Craig. In fact, here's an easy trick
for those who can't concentrate. With the article open, go to the "find"
function in your browser. Search for "39" (without the quotes). Then, please
tell us how much TV was viewed live, back in July 2015. And quote the text
directly, to prove that you have discovered it.
I will quiz you on this repeatedly, until you get it right.
Which just proves my point. Broadcasters were WASTING vast amounts
of spectrum.
Sorry, Craig. All it proves is that OTA TV will be degraded, and that
broadcasters are willing to muddle through, with the new one-time revenue.
Sorry Bert, but it is absolutely true. It is the reality of high
power big stick distribution and a modulation system ...
But this is merely you tired old, simplistic, unjustified mantra. It is, in
practice, false. You must have heard someone selling you a bill of goods, years
ago, and you've been unable to think beyond the simplistic notions.
It's called checker-boarding.
And that same checker boarding is required, EVEN WITH SFNs. I've explained this
many, many times. Furthermore, you have never understood that for an SFN to
create the kind of sharp boundaries you naively assume will exist, it would
take a very dense mesh of towers. There are no huge buffer zones between
markets in these congested areas, Craig. Your naïve claims of half a dozen
small sticks will not provide the coverage or the sharp boundaries you would
need. You need to do the math to understand why.
In short, falling back on your facile words from 15 years ago does *not* gain
you any new-found credibility. If any amount of SFN use will happen, take a
look at European cities, to see what this amounts to IN PRACTICE. You're
talking a couple of big sticks, or one big stick and a few medium gap fillers.
No sharp cookie cutter patterns to be had, Craig. Inform yourself before
arguing.
As for CDNs, you are once again clueless. They exist because there
is a demand for the service they provide from a very large number
of companies that offer Internet services.
Craig, your insistent disagreements become comical. CDNs exist. ISP nets use
their services. End of story. You seem to have forgotten that you were arguing
that ISPs don't need them, that they would always deploy their own mirrored
servers.
Bert
