I went looking for gulls in coastal Lane today. There weren’t any. Well,
maybe ten. Basically a gull-free zone except a few at the port.
The second part of my day was to count and survey the waterbird action on and
around Siltcoos Lake, an absurdly undercovered birding spot in winter. Details
to eBird, but highlights were over 1500 Ruddy Ducks, 46 Pied-billed Grebes in
sight at once, lots of Canvasback scattered around, at least six male CINNAMON
Teal along Canary Rd and nearby, which I think qualifies as a Movement (and is
typical there in late January), five Greater Yellowlegs up South Inlet off the
Siuslaw and one Daniel Farrar, whom I visited for gossip.
