Spent part of the day birding Florence and north. Enormous swells and huge surf
made seawatching tough, but when I could see there wasn't much happening but a
small movement of RT Loons.
The last big wads of Cal Gulls are gone and Mew numbers are up.
N SHRIKEs near lot 5 on s jetty road and another seen from the gate at Waite
Ranch near Cushman. Both were very white birds, not brown imms. Waite also had
at least 28 RED phalaropes.
In Florence there was a SLATE colored junco, my first of the winter. It was on
Laurel St on the edge of Old Town near what I now know to call the ceramic
shop - the sign says "clay" but my loose writing caused at least one local
observer to prepare for a sparrow chase.
There were ten BLACK Oystercatchers at Bob Creek, gathered above the surf.
That's a lot for the location.
