Hi guys - been out of the office for 2 days or I would have tried to
answer this earlier.

My method for extracting this data would be *slightly* different from
the suggestions already made but it might be worth a try to see if it
works.

The method may vary slightly according to which version of Word you are
in, as mailmerge has changed quite a bit lately!

Anyway, create your merge document as normal. Then when you have the
data source open, do a filter on the whole datasheet so that you only
select those records that have fields not containing an @ in the
communication field you mention.

In word 2002 using the mail merge wizard this works as follows:

Open your data source, and a dialog box opens up showing all the records
available.
Tick clear all.
Click the dropdown arrow on the header list for the field you want to
filter on (communication) and click advanced.
Click the filter tab and select communication in the field box that is
showing white (all the other boxes should be grey at this stage.
As soon as you select a field, the *comparison* box will come up as
defaulting to *equal to* - click the dropdown arrow to the right of
there and find *does not contain*.
Then in the *compare to* enter an *@*.
Click OK and complete the merge.

I tried it this way and it worked on a small selection of data.

In word 2000, you get the chance (as far as I can remember) to select
all recipients or filter out a selection at an earlier stage, as
obviously there is no mailmerge wizard to guide you through.

The only thing you might find is that if the Excel sheet doesn't have
this field's formatted as *general* you might not get an accurate
response.

HTH.

Subject: [mso] Word Form IF Statement...Maybe?

I have data in Excel that I need to pull using MS Word for a mail merge
where I only want to merge records containing telephone numbers. I
don't have access to or control of the worksheet containing the data
except to extract information for the merges. The field I'm drawing
from is called Communication. The same field may contain either a phone
number or an email address. If the field contains a phone number I want
it in my Word mail-merge.

I was trying to write some kind of statement that would recognize the @
symbol in email addresses and not pull that record if it existed but
didn't have any luck.

Any advice or information appreciated.

/g
