Robert...

First of all...don't waste your time uninstalling and reinstalling
Word...that RARELY fixes any problem since users don't know how to
completely wipe the program from the disk, so several files remain, even
when it's uninstalled. So before you go through dealing with an eraser
program...lets start over here.

I wasn't paying attention and Linda was on the mark with her initial
suggestions. But sometimes a support person only hears the final results
without hearing all the original details.

So can you tell us a little history so we can try to drill down what the
problem is, since the standard, quick fixes haven't helped. It may be
something more serious, but it might also just be that something was
done or not done that has been missed along the way.

Before you go any further, go locate your TEMP directory and delete out
any files in there. See this article for details:
www.mousetrax.com/maintain.html

If clearing out the TEMP dir and rebooting doesn't help...then come back
and let us know some previous details.

* Have you upgraded or installed anything else that might be related to
a conflict? EVEN if YOU don't think something might be an issue, please
tell us everything you've done to the computer before the problem
started.

* Is this a new computer? Has Word ever worked? If so, think about what
you've done when it stopped working and what EXACTLY have the error
messages been that you've received.

Sometimes minor issues can get worse when uninstalling and reinstalling
occurs before the minor issue is solved. So before you start ripping out
files, lets see if we can start over and narrow this down.

Let us know...

Thanks linda,
I did what you said and renamed the normal.dot but upon trying to load
the disc it just played a bit of music and still wouldn't open. If
there's something major wrong here, should I abandon attempts to solve
the problem and put on the Compaq full restore disc and start off brand
new again after copying what I can on the CDRWs.? What do you think?(Its
a wonder this hasn't happened to other people - but maybe I shouldn't
have removed Word 2000 and tried to find an answer beforehand!)Thanks,
Bob.
