Robert....you weren't supposed to try to open the normal.dot
files....you should rename them (right click on them when you find them
in the Find Box and select "rename"...then name them something like
normal.old) Then see if you can open Word. Word will make you a new
normal.dot when it can't find the old one. If it is normal.dot that is
causing your problem, this will fix it. If not, let us know and we'll
try something else.

Thanks for your quick reply Linda.
I went to the Run for winword etc.but nothing happened.I then found the
Startup folder looked inside but it was empty.I went to templates and
found
2 files;Normal opened the word and it shut immediately and ~$Normal had
a
file convesion box in unicode(UTF-8) which I didn't know what to do with
(me
just being an ignorant parent and the kids have now gone to school). The
Word
2000 disk still won't load.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.Thanks.Bob.
