Ok, Bob....I guess I was misunderstanding....I thought you couldn't get
Word to launch from your hard drive, which is what I was trying to
fix....I didn't realize Word was not installed and you were trying to
install it and THAT'S what wasn't working....sorry.

So...What disk is it that's not working? Is it an Office 2000 disk or
the Compaq disk that came with the computer that includes Office 2000?
If it's the compaq disk, I can't help you...I have no clue how to
install individual programs from those OES disks....if it's the Office
disk, then I would tell you to contact Microsoft. If the disk is bad,
they may replace it for you.

Good luck.

Thanks linda,
I did what you said and renamed the normal.dot but upon trying to load
the
disc it just played a bit of music and still wouldn't open. If there's
something major wrong here, should I abandon attempts to solve the
problem
and put on the Compaq full restore disc and start off brand new again
after
copying what I can on the CDRWs.? What do you think?(Its a wonder this
hasn't happened to other people - but maybe I shouldn't have removed
Word
2000 and tried to find an answer beforehand!)Thanks, Bob.
